    chapter 13 question

If you are a sales rep and have to use your own money to travel weekly $500-$600 and also must have money for plane tickets if home office wants you to fly somewhere. How is that handled in a chapter 13? I mean if you don't travel you will lose your job. Has anyone had any experience with this type situation?

How is it handled in which respect? I assume you are reimbursed for the expenses, so it would be neither income nor expense. Not sure what you're asking.
Pay no attention to anything I post. I graduated last in my class from a fly-by-night law school that no longer exists; I never studied or went to class; and I only post on internet forums when I'm too drunk to crawl away from the computer.

This can be a sticky situation because of course you will not be able to have a credit card to fund these expenses and travel expenses, as you know, can run into the thousands. Unless you are able to float the cost of hotels, flights, etc. on a debit card, it can be a big problem. You can come clean with your employer and have them obtain for you a company credit card on which to put your expenses or you can possibly utilize a relative's credit card and when reimbursed by your employer for the expenses ensure the relative gets the money to put back into the account. In any event, I would discuss with your attorney before doing anything.

        chapter 13 ?

With regard to travel expenses for a job. We use our money and yes it is reimbursed only to be used again. We have to have the money to spend we have no cc-so How can we have the money in a chapter 13-since we can't use it as an expense? I just wondered if anyone else had this situation. We have to have the money to spend? or no job

The money is simply an asset -- either as cash on hand or as an account receivable. You will have to find a way to exempt it or the trustee will want you to pay an equivalent amount through your chapter 13 plan.

Unfortunately this type of situation makes budgeting even more difficult. If you cant put aside a cushion in which you would be one trip ahead (so to speak) then you'll need to talk to your employer about it.

I'm in sales as well and this did cause a problem for me as well. I never did tell my company but I was able to work out a "cash advance" system with them. I gave them my estimate cost of the plane, hotel and food for each trip. They gave me the money and then I booked the trip. When I did my expenses each month, I would have to deduct the amount of the advance. Hope this helps!
