    Why dont they communicate?

Retained lawyer 1 month ago. Each time that I have droped off the required paper work I ask them if there is something else they need. They tell me if there is they will contact me but I never hear from them. The last time I was in there to drop off some recent pay stubs she mentioned something about setting up a signing appointment if there was nothing else that they needed but so far I have not heard from them. Why is it taking sooooooo long or is this normal?

Yep - that sounds somewhat similar to our experience. I don't know that our situation is typical or atypical (two houses, one of which we decided to let go 8 months after filing), but for us this has been a long, slow ride. My best advice is to settle in and not worry about the glacial speed at which a 13 seems to move.

I have found solace in finding information on Pacer and 13datacenter...as long as your lawyer isn't a complete nimrod, you're looking at 36 or 60 months regardless, so just do your best to not to lose too much sleep.

They have hundreds of cases that they deal with, you have only 1. I'm not saying that as a way to excuse their behavior - but to show you need to stay on top of things and take steps to keep them focused as well. Contact them to ask about setting up an appointment to review your petition in preparation for filing.

Agreed as above. Call and schedule an appointment. While your case is paramount to you, it is routine for your atty.'s office.

Does your lawyer have a paralegal? The only times I ever spoke to or met my lawyer was at the initial consultation and at the 341. The rest of the three years, any issues that came up were resolved by one of the lawyer's paralegals, who were responsive and easier to schedule appointments with.

This is pretty typical, I've hired attorneys for criminal complaints, child custody, divorce, etc and they are all the same. Most are just too busy to reply to every little thing.

Keep on calling, by keeping up on mine and questioning each part of my plan and each plan revision on Pacer I've saved myself over $20K over the next 5 years. A lot of times my attorney didn't call back, but got my messages and made the changes I requested.
