I can't get financing without a co-signer. My question is that if I have a co-signer won't the IIB notation show on their credit report after I file? And I would think that would hurt their credit rating drasticaly (sp?)

Yes it will adversely effect their credit rating, but drastically? No. You can always email or call the credit reporting agencies and ask them about that specifically.
