    Income Tax

I'm about to file my income tax through Turbo Tax. Getting back $1600 Fed & $150 state( I'm in GA)
My husbands truck has been broke for about 5 months and is going to cost $500+ to repair. Both our vehicles need tires and my car needs a few minor things repaired.
I called the lawyers office and he told me that I'd have to get an estimate and then come in to talk with the lawyer and see how much they will allow me for repairs. Does anyone know how much is allowed in GA or is it according to your trustee?

I havent received a return this large in years and go figure I'd get a fairly big one when I may have to give it to my trustee, ticks me off!

If your local trustee is one that takes refunds, then your lawyer is right - this is the best option to ensure you don't lose your refund. You have nothing to lose here - by documenting your need for car repairs and maintenance with estimates, you'll increase your chances of keeping it.

It depends completely on your trustee.

You're likely seeing the result of the stimulus package that lowered taxes for 95% of Americans. Do as your lawyer suggests and you might not lose it. And now for 2010, look at your withholdings and if your local court allows adjusting during an active 13, make those changes accordingly so your return next year is small. Trustees aren't as interested in taking small returns.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.
