Why Should I Open a New Bank Account?

Only if you're including any account with that bank like a credit card, car loan, etc. The key is to keep your deposit accounts at a bank you have 0 debt with.

I opened a second checking account separate from the bank where I had defaulted on a credit card to be safe. The default bank didn't do anything with my checking account at their bank. Your bank may or may not mess with your account. Better to be safe than find out your account has been raided by your angry bank.

Cool. That is not true of the bank I have now. I just wanted to make sure.

I bank with BofA and have not had any issues. I was nervous as I was bking a credit card and 3 home loans with them. I am glad that I decided to keep my account.
