    Credit Card Reward Points

Is it generally assumed that one loses all reward points when credit cards are included in a BK13? I have a Capitol One card that has/had 17,000 points accumulated when I filed. I also had a good number of Amex Reward points but I remembered to cash them in for gift certificates before my website access was shut down, locking me out. Is there a legal opinion re reward points. They were rightfully earned and paid for prior to the BK.

I think the cardholder agreements universally cancel your rewards if you default.
Take $10 billion from the government and then sue me...nice

      They are gone.

I cashed all mine in and left my Amex Platinum with a -59,900 points balance.

        That's funny. AMEX deserves it.

I had a ton of points through the Marriott rewards program on a Chase card.

I used many of them and it was never cancelled and remains open with points on it.

It may be because it's a Marriott program but the card was a Marriott card from Chase.
Very fortunate in the grand scheme of things but have learned my lesson.

        Filed 12/15/08, 341 1/12/09, Cont to 2/12/09, cont to 3/12/09, cont to 4/15/09, cont to 5/11/09, cont to 6/02/09. Discharged 9/16/09, Closed 10/23/09

I had mega-points, but once I decided to bk to me it was all moot. I could care less on whatever junk they had in some magazine or whatever. I just wanted out. 'Hub

lol with the Platinum card you could borrow up to 60K points :-)

That's true - my Starwoods points from Amex remain fine as well.

Thanks for the replies. I figured as much that they were gone. Funny re the negative Platinum points. I never worried that cashing points in would look bad re the trustee. I simply forgot about the Capitol One points.

Ummm, the Amex points weren't junk! I purchased a couple of nice things including a Movado watch (with 65,000 points) and I believe some Prada stuff. Not junk. I know the Movado wasn't junk because it retailed for $600 in the Movado store. We took it to the Movado store right after, because we know that they always check the serial numbers before they perform any service or even look at your watch in that store. They always take it to the secret back room... even if you're asking for a new band for the watch. Just to make sure.

I would repeat the Amex Membership Rewards are pretty good, and if you spend $100K+ a year on your card(s)... you can get some really nice junk!

As a public service announcement... don't spend on your cards, just to accumulate points!
