    Credit check

I just got denied employment due to my BK. I'm sure that is legal right? Also, does the trustee check your credit before confirmation or discharge? Just curious....

Did you disclose the bankruptcy? I work for a bank and they don't exclude you from employment for bankruptcy.
Take $10 billion from the government and then sue me...nice

Sassie, in what line of work were you applying? Did they say that it was due to your BK or due to your credit history?

      So sorry to hear!

It is not illegal/discriminatory not to be hired due to a BK on your records or bad credit - in fact, many places (usually financial related) are up front about that during an interview or in their company policy. Some places just will not hire if there is a BK on your credit reports. It is illegal, however, to be fired solely due to filing bankruptcy.

I applied for a job in a financial setting. I currently work for a credit card company. The job I applied for is higher paying. I neglected to put my SSN on th app. They called and asked me for that, and said they need to run a credit check. I said I was in an active BK. She said they look for things like reposessions, bounced checks and defaulted student loans. I said go ahead and run my credit. I figured since I gave our vehicles back after filing, I'd be OK. I got the "Dear John" the next day....I am sure it was the BK.

Sassie, again, sorry to hear. Yeah, some industries, such as financial and defense (security requirements), may make it difficult to obtain a job with negative information on your credit report. It's a shame, because I don't personally believe a BK is indicative of a dishonest person.
