    Money in the Bank and Bank Account

    I will be filing chapter 13 very soon. I have three bank accounts. one account is associated with a credit card, another account is where i receive my direct deposit and have auto pay to credit cards and the the third account has no association to a credit card only a car payment.

    Can someone please clarify:

    Is it important to close my bank accounts prior to filing chapter 13 or just keep minimal amount in the bank prior to filing chapter 13.

    or

    Is this applicable to only chapter 7 filings. Im confused.

    Thanks everyone.

    When I went to a consult with my BK attorney, he advised me to close any bank account that I had tied to a creditor that I was including in my BK, and open up a new one.
    Filed: 5/22/07; 341 Hearing: 6/27/07;
    Confirmed: 8/13/07; DISCHARGED 4/17/2012

      I heard this advice and i was told not to have any money in my account that i wasn't willing to surrender on the day we filed. I live in TX and i understand there is no cash exemption.
