First of all, the receptionist cracked me up. She is this tiny thing, with big glasses and a bun. Her desk looks so big and she looks like a kid behind it. She looks so meek and frail, but boy, she lays down the law. She is super sweet, but when people in the waiting area started getting loud, her 'SSSHHHH' would scare anyone, LOL. She meant business!
So we go in and sign our name and she tells us to sit down and keep our voices down and turn our cell phones off. The chairs were lined up in rows facing blank wall, LMAO!!! People just sit there, staring at a wall until their lawyer comes or your name is called.
So we sit there, listening to the receptionist SHHHH people for about 20 minutes until our lawyer came. She came and told us everything looks good, but there might be an issue with us paying only 3 years instead of 5 because we are a higher income. She said if they make us pay 5, it would be the same percentage, we would just pay it off sooner. Im still trying to figure that one out...
So we go into the "orientation" room. It was a room with 3 tables. There was an employee at each table. We sat at a table and the employee went through all the papers, took our SSC and driver's license and pretty much verified that we signed the papers in front of our lawyer, verified our income, property, vehicles, and reason for bankruptcy. She filled out this form and circled a bunch of things on our schedule J and wrote "please look at schedule J" across the top of the form. Then, told us to sit back down in the waiting area.
Then we went into another room with a recorder. The gentleman (who was NOT the trustee) swore us in and put us on the record. He went through everything very quickly. He was very nice and easy going. He basically double checked everything the 1st employee did. Nothing about paying 5 years came up. The only thing he was hung up on was our choice to pay directly as opposed to payroll deduction. He said the 'rules' say we have to do payroll deduction unless we have a darn good reason not to. He said he would ask the trustee, but not to be surprised if she wants us to do payroll. That was it. He just said he would ask her about the payroll and have her look at the schedule J and he said our lawyer would let us know in a week if the trustee recommends the plan or wants it amended. We never saw the trustee.
So, I don't know if our payment plan is okay or if it can still change. I don't know if we will have to do payroll or not. At least the hard parts are over so far.... The lawyer said we don't have to come back to any meetings or hearings unless there are creditor objections. Everything else can be done by email.
So, back to waiting. I just want to know if my payments are gonna be the same as what we've been paying.
All in all, it wasn't that bad. Lots of variety of folks there, no one really paid that much attention to anyone else.
