I don't what age your nephew is but maybe instead of spending $30.00 on clothing (I think shopping for clothing at Macy's is like buying groceries at Whole Foods but I understand you're doing it because that's the card you may have) - why not schedule an afternoon to do something with him? An activity with a small lunch (nothing fancy). Or make a card on your computer and include a date to go shopping for a cheap video game...like I said, I don't know how old your nephew is but I bet you could find a way to spend less than $30.00 (and don't kids hate getting clothes anyway? )
    over $100K cc debt,$20K taxes,$332K mortgages/value $190K,surrendered
    Confirmed, $801/month 56 down,4 to go

OP said it was his first so I don't think it matters how much you spend. Heck my grandaughter will be a year old in September and her favorite toy is a paper plate.

I did find it interesting the amount of debt that can be incurred in different districts. My paperwork has anything under $1,000 has to be approved by Trustee, anything greater than that has to go before the Court.

Zip here, except for medical bills. And, I didn't find that the least bit oppressive. I mean, shouldn't there be a little pain for the filer in a bankruptcy? Especially when debt is the reason we filed?
And not including an open credit line, like the OP apparently has, would have been grounds for dismissal.

I have to agree, it's such a hard habit to break. You buy what you can afford. Seriously teaching this child that Auntie just didn't have alot of money right now, so how about I take you to McDonalds next weekend?? There are ways, plan ahead now, save for things. It's a tough lesson, but after 1 1/2 yrs, we got it. Last Xmas was hard for our kids, it broke my heart not to be able to give them everything, but we survived and so did they. This year I will be better prepared, I am starting xmas shopping in Sept.
