    When you refer cc companies to your lawyer, do you tell them why?

    I know when you are going to file, you don't tell secured creditors (like cars..etc) of your intent to file because the repo man might come, LOL...but what about credit cards?

    I retained my attorney and she wants me to refer them to her. But they keep hounding me as to why they have to call them. "credit counciling or bankruptcy?" Do I tell them I have an intent to file (Im going to file in about 2 weeks).

    Thanks.
    $124,000 unsecured debt
    $700 a month for 36 months.
    Case completed 6/15/12, waiting on papers!

    I referred all my creditors(secured and unsecured) to my attorney. I told them I retained a BK attorney and that I'd be filing real soon. Some of the cc companies even told me they could work something out with me if I didn't include them, but I included all my debts.
    Filed: 5/22/07; 341 Hearing: 6/27/07;

      I always tell them that I am not liberty to discuss the matter, that they can refer that specific question to my attorney, take their phone number or leave it.

        Once you have retained your attorney and your attorney advises you to tell your creditors to call him/her when they call you, that's all you have to do. Tell them you have retained counsel to represent you in filing bankruptcy and have been instructed to provide them with the counsel's contact information. Provide the information and hang up. No need to answer any further questions from them.

          I told the creditors that I retained an attorney and intended to file for BK. They would try to ask questions like, which chapter are you filing, when did you retained your attorney, is your attorney paid in full? I would just give them the attorney info and tell them to call him...

              They are inviting you to break the law. When you file, you are requires to submit all your debt.
