Well, I'm too old (55) and too tired (work 72+hrs a week) to go out or to wear the latest fashions. I just want to be able to keep a roof over my head and pay the household bills!

I would suggest that you download the schedule I, schedule J, and form 22C and fill them out yourself. The means test is a guide for chapter 7 vs. 13. From what I read on this board, most trustees look at the I, J, and 22C for determining payments. You can include your cell, internet, and medication on these forms. You will have issues with your rent but you can try and convince the trustee that the IRS allowance is way off for your situation.
I think you said your lawyer wanted you to get rid of cable tv. Actually if you did you would be worse off then the prisoners at Rikers since everything is digital now. You need cable to get a TV signal in a high rise building. You do not have an option to stick on antenna out the window (indoor ones probably will not work). If you cannot even get the most basic cable then you cannot watch TV at all (including news) and that would make it worse for you then someone in jail.
It sounds like the new judge is just someone that has issues. He is probably one that is against all the government programs and bailouts figuring he has no issues and that anyone who has come on hard times should just deal with it. He is not a good judge for bankruptcies if that is his perspective. f

Something is way, way wrong. You do not go from filing Chapter 13 with a 200 dollar per month payment proposal after working all the numbers to a judge refusing to confirm and outright rejecting your living expenses. Your attorney must have a few screws loose. No-asset cases are pretty much cut and dried and the final confirmed payment amount should not differ significantly from the attorney's original ballpark figure.
Standing Chapter 13 trustees are far too busy to examine a debtor's case very closely.

I do not know this person's specifics but....
If you are filing a ch 13 with a $200 a month payment but have a salary of over 100k, I think the trustee will probably look a little closer.
While 100k may be a lot of money in some parts of the country it is not in NYC. In NYC it may be equal to about 75k.
-As mentioned rents are very high.
-a 2 liter bottle of soda in a suburban supermarket that is on sale for $1.25 is at least 1.50 in NYC. In most cases people have to go to local delis or drug stores and have to pay $1.75 or 2.00 for the bottle of soda
-a monthly subway card is around $80 and it is likely you will need cabs on top of it. If you have a car you may need to pay for parking.
-all fast food restaurants cost 15-25% more in NYC.
-movie theaters are at least $1-2 more in NYC.
-a mug of beer that may cost $2-$3 in the suburbs will cost $5 or more in NYC.

The only thing you need is a decent internet connection which you can get for $50.
I realized this after I gave the 'Dolan' family (aka cablevision) close to $150 a month and now Verizon $170 a month for these advertised packages. How much TV do I watch --- literally less than 1 hour a week.
