Anyone file in the Chicago area. Just curious to know how aggressive the trustees are in the area and if you have a good attorney can you pm me his/her name or the firm.
Hi, Trying. I live in the far northwest burbs near the McHenry/Lake county line. Because I live in McHenry County, I filed in Rockford (Northern Illinois Bankruptcy Court, Western Division). If you are closer to the city, you will probably file in the Eastern Division in Chicago.
The trustee I got wasn't aggressive at all. I was one of the last cases of the morning, and saw several other cases go before him. I'd actually classify him as kind. He actually gave the lawyer for one couple advice on how to recalculate exemptions on a truck they needed to make a living. "Make me less interested in this," he said. I filed pro se, and he was patient and calm with me. The next day, he asked to be excused from the case and started the 60 day countdown. I was discharged last week. It was as good an experience as you could have filing bankruptcy.
I think of my bankruptcy less as "walking away" and more as "gnawing my leg off to get out of a trap".
