New to this Board

Hello everyone,

I have been reading everyone's posts, and feel as though I am getting alot of education. I am starting the process of Bankruptcy. I have been to see an attorney for filing a Chapter 13. (make too much, he said for a 7).

Your stories are very helpful.

Some questions I have:

I live in PA, my car was 15 years old. My attorney told me to get another car (one that I thought I could afford) and then we would wait for 3 months to file. I have stopped paying my credit cards. I am continuing to pay mortgages and car payments. When will my credit card associates start calling me?

Also, will my employer know that I filed. I really want no one to know except my husband, who is supportative and ready to go through with this too.

Good luck to you. It's a hard road ahead of you, but this board is great for support.

You're employer could find out for a few different reasons.

1) If you work in a financial industry (bank, credit union) they may have to be notified according to your employee hand book
2) If your chapter 13 payments are garnished from your check once the plan is comfirmed, then they will be alerted this way.

It's best to check your employee handbook for any refernce to BK. Try and remeber that your BK was a business decision. There are a lot of people these days having a hard time with money. You may be surprised how suppoetive they can be.

The credit cards will probably start calling from the 1st day you are late to 30 days late. Don't answer or refer them to your lawyer.
