I paid off my chaper 13 early at the end of December...still waiting on ONE check to clear that was mailed 02/01/09, once it is cashed then I will get the remaining balance sent to me, I have to cash it and then my account will be closed at the end of that month, then the paperwork has to go through the courts....when can I get a loan for a new ride? I have a place that is willing to loan it to me, when can I safely take out a loan?

I think it depends a lot on where you are located - the trustee's procudures, etc. I finished making payments in September 08...still waiting for discharge. I'm in Western PA. -
If your car need is dire, ask your lawyer to ask your trustee if you can start shopping now.
To get a deal without getting prior trustee approval you have to wait for your official discharge to arrive.I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.
