Wow...we are getting calls at work and its only been 7-10 days late

should we tell them we hae hired lawyer and doing ch 13???? we are not filing for 60 days at least but we can not have calls at work.
will this cause them to do anything since we have not technically filed yet?????

should we tell them to call the lawyer and leave us alone???

I am so nervous about it. I work in a small office and everyone can hear me on the phone. this sucks.

Tell them they cannot call you at work and then they have to stop. Then when they call at home...refer them to your lawyer. Don't tell them that you are filing. Just keep repeating "Call my attorney Mr.XXXX at 555-555-5555."

Good luck. Been there. Feel for ya.

Also...don't let them rattle your cage. You have a plan. It is the right thing to do or you wouldn't be doing it.

      Stay strong.

If verbally telling them to stop calling you doesn't work, send them a written request. Make sure you send it ceritified/return receipt -- then they have to stop calling you. It's the law! Good luck...

I know how you feel, we all do..but for me after awhile time turns into a blurrrrr and the days with all the calls just keep going on bye. Pretty soon you'll be 6 months after your last payment. I really didnt think I could handle it but guess what? I can and so can you

I told a couple of my creditors who called. One was Chase, they actually quit calling, but after 45 days I received a letter from them saying that they quit collection calls because I had indicated I was filing bankruptcy, however, they have not seen that come through. (I had filed like 3 days before getting that letter). The other one (MBNA) kept calling wanting to "settle".

Tell them you are filing Bankruptcy and they should be receiving the paperwork. This will buy you your 60 days. Can you put down a $100.00 to retain your attorney and send the calls to them? We Quit paying in July 08 and didn't tell anyone until August and didn't file until Nov08 after we payed our attorney.

If you are receiving calls at work and it is a small office you may want to consider telling everyone you decided to file. I know it's hard to admit and it becomes embarrassing. However, people often think of worse things. Fellow employees will most likely become your allies when adverting calls. Tell your manager to. Only you know what's best for work.. However, if it's a pride issue..swallowing it may save you allot of stress. Tell your coworkers that the attorney requires you to stop paying all non secured creditors. I am sure they will start asking questions. Good Luck
