Are lenders prohibited from sending 1098 form?

In getting my taxes together I realized I had no 1098 from my lender re interest payments; that's not a bill, why wouldn't they be allowed to send it? I DO have one from a vacation timeshare, which was included in the BK.
I had talked to someone in the BK dept. previously and she said I could get a statement of payments made and balance, but only with a faxed (or mailed) request specific to that. I guess I should add the 1098 too? What a drag!

Am replying to my own post: I actually got it backwards: the mortgage 1098 is here, it's the vacation timeshare that isn't! I guess I was under more stress doing taxes than I thought, read the whole darn form wrong!
So I guess the question would be as to getting the 1098 from the vacation club...request in writing?
