Did you stop paying all cc's or just some?

did you just go cold turkey and cut them all off at once? or did you pay on some for a couple months longer since you had been using them?

its just such a scary decision to decide to stop using/paying. its so final..no turning back.

roughly how much did you need to save for the lawyer fees? did they roll them into the ch 13 or did you have to pay them in full? I am just asking for a guestimate...thanks

We made payments on everything until we retained our attorney who told us to stop paying everything except our mortgages. We stopped 2/02 and filed 4/02. Yes, it is scarey especially when there are vehicles involved and you worry about the repo man. And the calls from creditors are incessant after you miss that first payment. But you do get through it.

We met with attorney in Oct 08 and filed Feb 09 we were current on everything and stopped paying on everything except house and cars that we are keeping on the day of appointment . We also stopped paying 2nd mortgage because we are lien stripping. Not making the payments was very hard but at the end of the month when I actually had $$ in my account the relief outweighed the anxiety of not paying. Our attorney required us to pay 1400 up front before filing and rolled the balance into 13.

        thanks

I am curious about lien stripping...will have to ask the lawyer about that. We have a 2nd and a 3rd. our house is about 20k upside down in equity but our 2nd and 3rd add up to about 70k....hmmmm....more questions to put on our list.

I completely stopped paying them, I know I am filing, and to continue to pay on them, is just a waste of time and money. Some people have suggested that your credit score will not take such a large hit by paying on them right up to filing, hence, that you wont be showing charge offs, or serious delinquencies, which is probably true, if you can afford it, then do it, I suppose.

I met with almost 10 attorneys, and all of their fees varied, from as little as $1000 down, to $2000 down. The rest was rolled into the plan. The total fee for most was $3500-$4000. I called a couple and they wanted all of it up front.

We stopped paying slowly over the course of a year. Medical problems with our son just didn't leave much money at the end of the month. We met with and atty in Nov 08 and filed in Dec 08. Everything was stopped except for our car and rent.

All the attorneys that I talked with wanted filing fees plus $50 upfront and the rest rolled into the 13.
