    What is a bar audit??Help!!

Just received a letter from the trustee. It was a statement for last year. At the bottom it says" Your case is pending a Bar Audit? Anyone know what this is?? Can it change what we pay each month??

    Thanks everyone!

I don't think I heard of these in Bankruptcy cases, but either the Trustee or your Attorney is being audited by the Bar Association for your State.

The audits usually come about due to a complaint (to the State Bar) regarding a particular Attorney's conduct.

I don't think it will affect you or your payment. This is different than the Trustee's third party audit.

I just read it again and it says at the bottom "Bar audits are performed in every case and you do not need to do anything to cause this to happen"

        Should I be concerned??

When I 'googled' "bar audit" I got hits ranging anywhere from how a restaurant and bar manages their alcohol sales, to an article about a high ranking NY hotel owner overpaid her income taxes, and about a Florida legal firm overcharging their clients.

So you've got me.... We're off to see our CPA.

          Good luck to you!

I suspect that a "bar" audit has to do with the bar date that is set for your creditors to file claims. They are probably auditing your claims against what was submitted and what was filed and to audit who filed a claim and who didn't. Once your "bar date" for claims has passed, no creditors can file a claim unless they get permission to do so from the trustee.

Invite Margarita, Tom Collins and Jack Daniels. Get the Budweiser horses to bring the beer. To the audit.

LMAO ... Dont forget Jose Quervo ! .. they say he is a good friend.

I know when I called my trustee office the other day when I got my title in the mail to ask if I was done with my BK now since I got it. She told me no I had 2 more payments left and that they would do a audit at the end of March. And if I over paid any they would mail me a check... So maybe they are just seeing whats been paid and hasn't.... maybe.

Thanks rockinggramma. I think you may be right...the paper was also a statement of what had been paid out (we had 1 payment last year...filed late Oct). We also had a bunch of creditors that haven't filed a claim.

                  Thanks for your help!!
