Filed Chapter 13 BK today

I'm doing a "Best of the BK Forum" sheet to help explain things to my wife and myself better as we go through this. That just made the opening.

The first relieve was to not worry any more regarding any phone calls to my home or work.

My wife was shock and in disbelieved when I told her that we needed to file bankruptcy, as we are very conservetive in our spending. It took some time for her to realize that this course of action would be best for us and our kids in the future

The best thing right now is we don't have to pay $2700 to credit card and stock margin debt we incurred as the result of Lehman brother bankruptcy

Hope, congratulations. Your mention of margin debt piqued my interest. Once filing ch 13, are you still allowed to retain your margin account? How does it work? I have a margin account with a brokerage. Lost a ton from the crash, but still have some equity left. If I file ch 13 for my cc debt, would I be able to retain my brokerage account? Would I still be able to trade in it? Or would the cash from any selling have to go to the trustee so in effect freezing the margin account? Thanks for any info you can offer.
