what is the Audit?

The US Trustee randomly audits bankruptcy cases to check for errors and/or fraudulent filings. If your case gets audited, you may be required to submit proof of your expenses, explain the legitimacy of your exemptions, etc., - that sort of thing.
The federal budget for FY2008 contained no money for the audits, and the US Trustee had to curtail audits for a short period of time. From what I understand, the audits have resumed because some money has been found to pay for them - but the number of audits has been reduced significantly. You can bet that the next federal budget will include enough money for the US Trustee to resume the normal audit frequency.
It's not a big deal unless you have something to hide.
