Okie.. So I knew when I posted that some people wouldn't be all that comfortable with the idea, but let me give you an idea of my situation..

I have a two year old son and before BK I went a LOT of time without food for myself in order to keep my son fed. A LOT... Like, almost every month for two weeks. On top of that for the few months prior to filing I lost my job which is really why I ended up having to do this in the first place. Losing my job put me behind in rent, which I am paying the arrears outside of BK, but turned out to be a bit more than I thought it was. I am still behind a bit each month, even with the BK budget in place and hopefully in time I will get everything caught up and I will be okay.. For now, though, I need to find a way to have a little wiggle room in my budget otherwise I'm SOL. Especially considering that I am having another little one in April.

This is a good alternative for people who DON'T qualify for government assistance, which is my case. Even barely making it, and even when unemployed, I don't/didn't qualify for food stamp assistance. I do need the help. ALL of us in BK need the help. I am not taking anything away from anybody and I don't feel guilty. I am one of the most generous people you'll ever meet, I think that this is one of God's ways of returning that and telling me that I am not alone.

Times are hard. Food prices are ridiculous and our payments aren't going down just because of it. We ALL need to find ways to live more frugally and if this helped any person than it was worth it.

Look people... If you REALLY NEED it, use it. If you don't, don't.

Believe me, you should know if you need this or not. It's that simple.

This isn't for those trying just to "get a good deal" when they can actually afford it. Consider the impact to others.

It's a food relief program, afterall.

Actually, according to the following quote on their website, it is for anybody that wants to participate even if they can afford it.

        Who qualifies?

Everyone, there are no applications or qualifications to order Angel Food.

Actually, the exact POINT is that it's there for EVERYONE, no matter your income level.

It's open to ANY and ALL.

              PURCHASING ANGEL FOOD
There are no restrictions, conditions or forms to fill out to purchase Angel Food. The food relief program is open to one and all. Anyone may purchase an unlimited number of boxes of Angel Food by placing an order with a local Angel Food host site. FIND A LOCAL HOST SITE NOW.
Unlimited. We are all in need. In varying degrees, and by ordering you aren't taking away from people more needy. This isn't the equivalent of taking advantage of government welfare such as TANF, or food stamps. If they were worried about who this helped they would ask for applications, but they are an equal opportunity assistance program that doesn't punish people for working a decent job and still not being able to get by. As their site says, you pay for it; it's a hand up not a hand out.. We all need a hand up sometimes.

Umm. just wanted to note, this is NOT just for people in distress---
The way it works is that the MORE people involved--poor or not--the MORE food they can buy CHEAPER in BULK--this program works because they buy in BULK--(and also because they have many volunteers ;)
So, for any of you out there who are worried about being conscientious of using a program that is geared for the "more needy"--save your guilt--the more the merrier!!!! If you have a few hours per month volunteer for the sake of your conscience--but by all means--get involved in the program, and GET OVER the hang ups!!!

Thanks to the posts made here, I am now involved too, and this month will be my 1st month --I bought 2 boxes, and I will be posting pics too--just to compare--and THANK YOU for bringing this program to our attention!!!

Hi cwillie: Why not go online and find out where the closest distribution point to you is, then call them and see of they have any 'runners' going to your area? Ours does. Good luck.

well, the program IS LOOKING for others to start up more programs--Perhaps you could bring up this program to your local church or a local business or social club and see if they want to get involved...Check out their site--the contacts are there--they can tell you how to go about it--I'll bet you are not the only one in your area who would love a program like this!

I just did this. I have a church gig at a Lutheran church in town that's well-off enough to employ singers. Since the nearest participating Angelfood church is an hour away, and I know there are a lot of folks who would benefit from this in town and don't have cars to get there, I put a bug in the pastor's ear about Angelfood Ministries, and he has enthusiastically run with it.

I'm really happy about this, and not just for myself. I ride a rural bus route into town every day with a busload of people whose daily chitchat - just random details of trying to make ends meet - is absolutely heartbreaking. The town/gown split here is every bit as bad as the economic/racial divide was in the big city where I grew up. On Sundays I see all these generous and well-meaning academics at the church sending pots of money off to Africa - which is great - but they have no idea how much desperation there is within 20 miles of their own lovely homes.

(Guess we should be talking about this on the "lifestyle adjustments" board...)
