Original creditors, after thinking about this last night I did some searching. I am guessing your original creditors have the right to contact you there. And the collection agencies do not if so requested. But I have been telling the originals not to as I cannot talk about that matter here, they will be moving things to collection soon enough.

I found that they respected my wish not to be contacted at work BUT only if I took their calls at home.

If they find they can't reach you they'll try every number they can find, but if they do get you then they'll keep using that number. They will call over and over and over again though, there's no stopping that. They seem to have about a 48 hour turn around time - it's crazy.

The other thing that you'll find (even after you can give attorney info) is that many of them will continue calling until you can give them a case number. Their automated dialing systems don't connect the representative until someone answers, so the person on the other end usually hasn't had time to see that you've already given all the attorney info etc. I would always ask them to look at the call history rather than getting upset with them. Most times that worked. I only lost it once with a US Bank representative who was really obnoxious.

Just a thought, give your prospective attorney 50 bucks (a token) to take the calls. Once we told our creditors our attorney’s name and number, they stopped. As I am more/less retired and have no office to go to, I would not know if it would have stopped the “thugs” from calling.
If I knew it all, would I be here?? Hang in there = Retained attorney 8-06, Filed 12-28-07, Discharge 8-13-08, Finally CLOSED 11-3-09, 3-31-10 AP Dismissed, Informed by incompetent lawyer of CLOSED status, October 14, 2010.

There have been a few very arrogant and rude ones so far. Most though when I said I was in the process of filing and would contact them asap with my attorney info didn't put up much of an argument. However I did get a few trying to convince me to a debt consolidation company. And one that was really interested in why I was filing, I mean they wanted a break down of my life problems.

I finally have come to use the following statement:

"I'm sorry I am unable to discuss this matter at this location, please contact me at my residence, thank you"

It doesn't stop them, but it allows me to not argue or go into detail when they do call.
