    Trustee payments

My trustee allows only money orders or cashier's checks for payment.

I know I have options on getting money orders/cashier's checks, but I was wondering if anyone had some hints or advice on getting them at the lowest cost.

My bank offers the cashier's checks, but for a fee of $5. They will even send it out to the trustee. I am just trying to evaluate the best course of action.

Try to have the trustee initiate an automatic payment either from your checking account or through your employer.Give him/her a sob story about the high gas prices and that the $5 charged by banks for a cashier's check or money order will at least put one gallon of gas in your car.

      Walmart!

Walmart has money orders for $0.46 here.
And you can use your debit card to purchase them. I love Walmart.

My payment is taken directly from my paycheck, but I pay my mortgage with a money order and do certified mail -- not return reciept, because you can track the certified mail online. I keep the money order receipt, the stub, the certified receipt, and I go online and print when the mortgage company receives the mailing. I staple it all together and file it in a folder every month.

Sumoboy: Your bank if the money is there, can give you a cash out with a cash out slip and then take it to your vendor of choice as your local food store or mini mart, and for about 50 cents, make a money order. Tis best to send by paid M.O. as I now am sweating that my personal check goes in. I could not cash out as my CU is out of state, and my god-daughters account is below the check amount. I will work on this.
Tis bad to bounce a check on a Trustee, NO? 'Hub

          Hi Sumoboy,
I'm glad everything is going well in your BK filing. I know every case is different, but would you mind giving details of your payments? Do you have a lot of "wiggle-room" in your budget and for how long on the payments?
I'm just VERY nervous as I move foward on the BK procedings.

          Thanks!

my trustee, in Michigan, will resubmit the check but then you get a letter that states :only MO or certified checks, no personal checks. My trustee holds checks and will not disburse until the next month. I have always paid with MO and our Walmart is .46 cents also

For me, I have to make a $230 payment for 60 months, if the trustee does not change the amount.

As for Wiggle Room, I believe I have it better than most considering that I have savings up to the maximum exemptions in my state. I just hope no major expense (medical, car repair) comes up.

Thanks. There are places around here that would do the money order here cheaper than my bank. I was just looking at options. Too bad the trustee doesn't do something similiar to online bill pay.

                I hope your situation improves.

I use a Postal Money order for about a dollar and then place it in the mail as the next step. (Debit card)
To me it is better than carrying around hundreds of dollars in cash to go to a different place.
Western Union and other charge a fee for an amount up to $500.00 and a separate and equal fee for the remainder.
