I also don't think anyone should judge others on their religion or their beliefs.

I don't tithe but I do give to different charities.

And I don't think people that tithe think by doing that, their lives will be good all the time. If it was that easy, everyone would do it and there wouldn't be any bad in the world.

That is one thing I have always done, given from my heart.

I remember growing up and seeing my grandparents tithing. I also remember one quote from the bible that I always heard, "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God."

From our experience, when we filed, we declared a 10% tithing expense. The trustee asked how long we had been tithing, and to what church. We answered, and he approved.

I haven't tithed in ages. The church envelopes come and I don't go to church. I need to go back, but giving money does nothing for the way I feel, spiritually. All it does is pay for the heat, gas, water and priest's salary. They hold other auctions and fund raisers of which I DO participate in. I was sent $100 worth of tickets to sell for the school and I sold them all and sent the money in. My brother on the other hand, puts $100 a week in the basket but then again he makes a ton of money. He fully believes in putting that donation in and giving up other things for it. There is nothing against this, but if you're in financial ruins, it's best to reduce this amount and give what you can afford, or like others said, give it when you are in better financial shape. Food on YOUR table is more important then paying the church's electric bills, IMO.
