confused about keeping cash in the bank

How much cash can you have in your bank account at the time of filing? I live in Ny state. Will be doing a 13, but if we stop paying on cards , we could save 2000 a month, so not sure how many months we should stop paying before filing because we might have to much money and they take anyway. Thanks

if your filing stop paying your cards and save the money get all repairs done on your home and cars and get ready to go under the scope of the trustee!

There is no reason to pay the cards if you are going to file anyways just throwing money away I havent paid mine for 6 months and still havent filed should be in april

I agree with 253 I quit paying 11 months ago its a waste to pay any unsecured debt if you know your going to file and my attorney told me not to pay. Just keep house paid and any car your planning on keeping. Keep those paid and the rest do not pay

I agree with the other posters, stop paying unsecured and pay on things that need repairs.

I wouldn't recommend accumulating money in the bank at all. Spend on required expenses and hold on to a "few dollars"..in your sock drawer.

I have learned the hard way you need to have liquid funds available. I had one account that had a jugdement agsinst me with gave them the right to attach my bank account with they did for $2,700.00+.! I was sent a form in which I had to disclose all my bank accounts, so when they decided that didn't like the payment schedule I submitted to them they had all my accounts frozen and I had access to no money at all. What I do now is travelers checks... Yopu can keep those on hand and they can be replaced in something happens to them. Trust me withdrawal some money and put it some where safe, bercause you never know what will happen.

Yeah, but I thought after speaking to them I had an arrangement to pay the debt. And since they had the leagal right to, they went and froze my accounts.

That sucks!!! I feel like anytime you are behind it is best to keep the cash out fo the bank if you have evena few hundered dollars in there they will take it!

I was actually discharged in July '06. I've taken some time away from the forums to work on my business

I too saved my money in the form of travelers checks. I sent the receipts to my mother in case of theft or fire...

but if we made a luxury purchase or cash withdrawl is it wise to stop paying the cards even if we wait 6 month before we file? wont that look suspicious? even if we intended to pay it back, but decided not to.

IF I decide to withdraw say $2K 6 months prior to filing to buy stuff on the Internet am I playing with fire??? As of todays date ALL bills and current and being payed... Just don't want to have problems when and if I for sure file!!
