I am sure that if anyone has any loans with Sallie Mae they can identify with this thread.
We have a Career Training loan that my DH co-signed for (my son is the primary borrower) that was included in our Chapter 13. As everyone knows, this loan is not dischargeable. Sallie Mae filed a proof of claim and we were approved by the trustee to continue making monthly payments. Welllllllllllllllll.......
Sallie Mae is a complete nightmare to deal with. Just to brief you on all of their screw ups: they wouldn't apply the trustee's monthly payment to the loan; they pretended that they lost them. Finally got that straightened out thanks to the trustee's office and someone in their customer advocate unit.
They kept applying the payment that I sent in to other borrower's loans. Finally got that straightened out, again thanks to the customer advocate unit.
They screwed up my son's credit stating that he filed bankruptcy and reported this incorrect information to all 3 major credit reporting agencies. For the time being, that has been corrected, but I am sure Sallie Mae will screw this up again.
My son also had 4 Stafford Loans with Sallie Mae. As soon as the grace period ended, these were moved to the Dept of Ed because of Sallie Mae's terrible servicing.
After his loans were moved, I thought we finally got everything straightened out. What was I thinking?*&%?
From the time that I filed bankruptcy, I could view this loan in question on line because my son is the primary borrower and should not be locked out of his account (This is according to my friend in the customer advocate unit, who I know so well now that we are on a first name basis, lol). Guess what? They have now restricted on line access. When I realized what had happened, I contacted their customoer service department for more information and I enjoy being punished.
I spoke to a representative named Shane who could speak 5 words in English. When I asked him what was going on, he said that the access was restricted because my son filed bankruptcy!!! I advised him that son is primary borrower, did not file bankruptcy; co-signer did in 2005 and we have always had on-line access. He didn't listen because basically he did not understand English, kept talking over me and interrupting me. Finally, after I had taken enough punishment, lol, and was totally pissed off, I hung up.
I called my little friend in the customer advocate unit in the next morning. He said that the information that the rep gave me was wrong, I should be able to view the account. He has not received any documentation to would advise him otherwise. So not I have to wait until someone in their systems unit reviews the account and hopefully give me back on line access.
The only good thing about Sallie Mae is that I found this person in the customer advocate unit. He has already offered to take care of my monthly payment and will contact me every month to let me know the status of the account(principal balance, payments received, etc. even though I have 29 months remaining in bankruptcy. But that is not the point.
I feel for anyone that has loans with Sallie Mae. Dealing with them has been harder than the actual bankruptcy.
