Has anyone got tax returns for home repairs?

I know we will get more than the allotted $500 for our 2007 tax returns next year. My lawyer said that we could request using the entire tax return for replacing our garage roof and door.
Has anyone successfully done this? We live in Missouri. And from what the paralegal says, we have a picky trustee. Lucky us.

Generally, when Trustees are interested in tax returns is people who file in the spring and fall. Summer filers usually don't get questioned about their tax returns.

If you have a particularly picky Trustee, he/she might ask. All you can do is plead your case. Necessary reasons why you need to keep the money.

Also, if a chunk of your refund comes because you have dependent children, your attny might be able to argue the Court cannot touch those funds. That issue already has several Decisions and Opinions supporting the Debtor/Filer keeping their return due to Dependent Credits.

yes- we have 2 dependent children. Of course, our garage roof needs to be replaced AND our garage door and door opener.
      I hope it works out.

on a move forward basis you should adjust your withholding so that you do not have a refund over 500.00
