    I filed chapter 13

I wanted to return and thank everyone for their help last winter.

I finally got the courage to call an attorney, and he recommended Chapter 13. I filed and it went well. I have a small monthly payment $134.50 for five years. Yes, that's a long time, but at least I can keep my house. My significant other filed also and pays the same amount.

My situation was unique, and all of you did your best to give me advice. Wanted to post, so that anyone else in this situation (significant other owning house with you and both declaring bankrkuptcy) will know what to do.

We both got to take the $15,000 house exemption (we live in Indiana), and we were able to split the equity between us. We both filed separately.

    Thanks again.

Glad things have gone smoothly for you Flower!!

Hopefully, with relatively low monthly payments, you and SO can get back on even keel. Once you're BK is over, you'll have your house, and you can move forward in financial freedom!!

Hope you hang around and keep us posted on how things go for you.

I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.

So glad to hear all is going well for you and SO, Flower! Thanks for coming back to catch us up and hope you will continue to stop by to keep us posted on how things are going. As a fellow 13er, you are right - five years does seem like a long time - but when we compare 60 months against decades of horrible debt that we can't get out from under no matter how hard we try, somehow five years seems pretty darned short all of a sudden!
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.
