Hi - Maybe this has nothing to do with us being in Chapter 13 but I thought I'd try. Turns out every time some money related happens to us, I think 13! A couple of weeks ago I was out of state due to business. I had to use my Visa Check Card. Well, Visa apparently locked out my card and I was not able to use for a few days. I called my bank and they were able to unlock it. Now I got a call from my bank headquarters saying that my Debit Card has been compromised, for which they have lowered my maximum usage to $500 and they will be issuing new card. Anybody knows what that means? This is also my ATM card so I'm kind of freaking out. Of course, it was easier to post here first as my bank is closed now, but I'll check with them tomorrow. Could this be related to my business expenses and them thinking somebody stole it or something??? I checked Pacer and nothing new has been posted on my case... Geez... being in this situation always freaks you out, doesn't it! THX!!!

This has nothing to do with your Ch 13. Your name was likely listed in a bank or business whose credit card databank has been 'hacked'. It doesn't mean someone has used your card - just that someone now could use it if they wanted to because the hacker has your account number and name. Watch your account like a hawk until you get a new card and notify your bank immediately if you see even one charge there that isn't yours.
Your bank lowered the amount that can be charged on your current card to protect themselves (you can only be held liable for $50 fraudulently charged) until they can issue you a new debit card with a new account number. Same thing happened to me about two months ago after I used my debit card at an electronics store and their cc database was illegally entered. My bank notified me by letter and arranged for a new debit card - never saw any odd charges on my old account and everything is fine.Last edited by lrprn; 03-29-2007, 07:39 PM.I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

As your credit score decreases, your usage of your debit card can be changed or the debit card can be cancelled, even if the checking account is left open. When I filed my chp 7, Wells Fargo (I didn't have any BK accounts with them) cancelled my debit card. Thanks goodness I am familiar with the bank manager and he was able to reinstate it. I would reccomend that you go into your local branch where you opened your account and ask that your daily limit be reinstated. Banks get funky about BK sometimes even if you aren't including them...Chapter 7 Pro Se....Discharged Feb. 2006

Our daughters just got new Debit Cards and PIN Numbers in the mail this week. They got notes from the Bank last week that TJ Maxx had been compromised. Evidently the girls shopped there at some point.
The Bank has gone thru all customers' accts looking for TJ Maxx Debit Card charges. Customers that had used their DC cards at TJM were being issued new cards with new card numbers and new PIN's.
The girls haven't had any change in service on their old cards, but they don't "charge" high dollar amounts. Maybe $40-$50 for a tank of gas. Rest is nickel and dime stuff.Filed Ch 7 - 09/06
