I am not an attorney. My comments are based on personal experience and research. Always consult an attorney in your area to address concerns related to your particular situation.
Another good thing about being poor is that when you are seventy your children will not have declared you legally insane in order to gain control of your estate. - Woody Allen...
How about one that doesn't require a huge deposit because of bad credit?
Any ideas?
You are allowed to have one. If you don't already have one, it may be difficult to get one without a hugh deposit. I would call around the different providers and explain your circumstances and ask if they charge a deposit.
If they want too much to open one, then I would look at the pre-paid plans others have talked about.
If you have it available in your area, get a cricket phone. They are no contract, prepaid - $50 a month gets unlimited everything. The only thing is that their phones aren't any cheaper than $100, (at least on their website.)
I'm not a lawyer or legal expert, just offering advice on what I may have gone through and/or have knowledge of. Good luck!

Dunno if this applies to your situation, but here goes: First, I'm not a big cell phone person. I don't live on it, I don't text on it, and it doesn't play a big part in my life. I have a prepaid Verizon cell phone, no camera, no internet, no fancy things. I put $15 per month on it, and it suits me. I've never understood people who live on cell phones, but that's just me. Email me and you'll get a MUCH faster response.
Do you NEED to have a normal, $50/month cell phone account? Really? Do you NEED to speak to your wife, kids, friends, etc twelve freakin' times a day?
Seriously, folks... Get over it. It's a tool, NOT a necessity.
