    Update on Tax Refund

    Hello,

I said I would post what happened after I e-filed and requested the refund be deposited into my bank account.

    To recap:
    • I owed back taxes to the IRS which are included in my 13 plan
    • Nothing was said at my confirmation hearing about income tax refunds
    • To make sure all was ok, I called my lawyer's office before I filed
    • He said, go ahead and e-file, you can even have it deposited into you account, the trustee did not say he wanted your refund. I have others who got letters, but not you. You are all set.
    • Holding my breath, I do exactly that. E-file AND request direct deposit.

So, it was accepted. And when I checked my status, it said, unless we find problems, you should have your refund by Feb 20.

And I checked every day. On Tuesday, it said, there is a problem with your return. Call this number, have all your stuff available, tell the agent the code is <<whatever it was>>>> when you speak to them.

Rats! I knew it was too good to be true.

Expecting the worst, I called. And I spoke with a very nice lady, and she said, no, it looks like it just needed to be verified, because I see you are in a Ch. 13 bankruptcy. Looks like your refund is scheduled to be released Friday, Feb 16.

    Today!

Ever the doubting soul, though, I don't think it is real.

Until I checked my bank balance (all $1.36 of it, AND I had just gotten paid yesterday, that's all that was left after paying the utility company and buying some $34 worth of groceries. Sad.)

AND, there it was. My refund from the IRS.

So, there you have it. I filed the same way today with the state -- if you make less than $52K for a single person, you can e-file for free, go to the irs website, if you link to a preparer from there, you can e-file federal taxes for free. The state cost $24.95, which I didn't have until today.

So I will see how the state goes.

I am keeping my fingers crossed.

    Thanks, everyone.
