More Questions concerning Chapter 13

If I'm in Chapter 13 Bankruptcy, what happens if:

1) I move. I would like to get a bigger place, which will mean higher rent.

2) My girlfriend moves in

3) What happens if I get married? And if I get married and something happens to me....like death, is my wife stuck with the chapter 13 payments?

Moving is okay. Reducing your DMI because you are now renting a different place, won't be allowed unless you're not changing your payment to the Trustee. Or, under certain conditions, you are moving to change jobs and the new area has higher rents (based on the National standards).

The court usually doesn't care about this or even wants to know.

It's your Chapter 13 (period). If you get married you may want to motion to modify the confirmed plan (new expenses based on a household of 2) and/or consider conversion.

I really don't like speculating about things that may happen. The key is to stay in plan and keep your head low. If you have life changes, then contact your attorney and determine what is the best thing to do (Modify Plan, Convert to Chapter 7).

A Chapter 13 is not a death sentence.
