Does filing for Ch 13 affect homeowners or car insurance rates?

Just something I'm wondering as I'm planning our budget. Should we expect them to increase due us filing bk?

It didn't effect mine either. However, I did try to shop for new rates -- from a different insurer -- and did notice that the rates were a little higher. Just stay with your current insurer for your home and car(s).

This is my experience also. I believe insurance companies that check credit do it before you initially open any policies with them. We rate shopped after we filed and all of the quotes were a bit higher. So if you don't like your insurance carrier- I'd advise finding a new one before you file.

I agree with Papie...mine did not increase at all during my plan but looking around during was not a good idea...estimates to change were higher.
