Appeared for my 341 meeting 7/16 in St. Paul, MN. I was nervous going in, because I am a high income filer and had some inquiries from UST's office prior to the meeting. (Attorney responded to those inquiries with documentation and UST did not appear at 341).
I arrived early with attorney to view proceedings. The meetings took place in a large room on the 4th floor of the courthouse. People dressed informally--some very much so. I wore "business casual" and that is what I would suggest others do.
Finally it was my turn. The trustee was very businesslike. She had clearly reviewed the petition and was interested in a marital lien I hold on my ex house from my divorce. She asked questions on how I valued the lien, and I answered them to the best of my ability. She also asked many of the standard questions described elsewhere on this board (which, BTW made me feel so much more prepared for the meeting). She asked for the address of the ex wife, because I am paying child support/spousal maintenance. Later my ex got a letter from the trustee advising of the BK--not sure what that's about.
The meeting was soon over. I was told I did a good job. I hope so.
My suggestions for those approaching their meeting are:
1. dress business casual. no shorts/flip flops/tee shirts/etc.
2. review your petition beforehand so you know what's in there.
3. go to the meeting early to watch others and see how it goes.
4. don't worry! This is the easiest part of the process.
thanks to this forum as well.
