I'm Middle District of Florida, Chapter 13. It was a breeze. I got there about an hour early, which was good because I had no idea where to park! After circling the block 3-4 times, I found a parking lot that only cost $5. By the time I got inside, went through security and went to the restroom, I still had 30 minutes to spare. I went and sat in the meeting room to observe.
I was instantly calmed and relieved. It wasn't the trustee doing the asking, it was one of his staff members. And he was very nice to everyone. Even the people who did stupid stuff. LOL There was one couple, the second case I watched, who recently bought a new car. The wife's parents took out a $16k loan for the car, gave them the cash and they went and bought the car free and clear. The TT rep just told them calmly that that was a $16k gift and they should have talked to their atty before they did anything like that. Yikes! Not sure how that one will be handled, but dang, some people just don't think.
When it was my turn, I was asked the standard questions. Since I am on a salary, he did ask if I got bonuses or other incentives. I told him that I am eligible each year, but they are not guaranteed. He then asked if I received a bonus this year and I said yes. He asked how much and I told him. He just wrote it down and never said he wanted it. Hopefully, he won't! Then we got to my car and went over that whole thing (it was totaled in a car accident I had 3 weeks ago). He was fine with me using the insurance money ($4k) as a down payment on a new car. He did ask me who was ticketed in my wreck and I said the other driver. He then asked if I was planning to file a personal injury suit and I said no. He asked if I was sure and I said yes. He made sure to then tell me that if I did decide to pursue that, any money I received would belong to the court and not me.
He did question one expense on my schedules. He said it should have the standard amount of $200-something and we had $505 in there. It was a line that had something to do with vehicle expenses. He said he had to mark my plan unfavorable for confirmation because of that one item. But then he turned to my atty and said "I have to do it because of that, but I'll tell you right now, they will probably confirm it anyway." So hopefully he's right! And that was pretty much it.
