Had my Creditor Meeting today. I went two weeks ago and watched several cases to get a "feel" for what was going to be asked. My attorney was there 30 minutes before the hearing for some last minute advice. Pretty uneventful. The general stuff like "did you fill out your petition?" "Did you sign your petition?" "Do you have any other checking/savings accounts besides the ones listed?" "Any other safe deposit boxes?" The only unusual question was after he asked how I came to estimate my home's value (I said comparable sales in the area as I am a mortgage broker), he said "did you consult with a realtor and are you sure you couldn't sell your house for more?" He didn't bat an eye at my car and my motorcycle I purchased two years ago. He did want to look at my tax returns (which I was hoping against.) He asked if I was expecting a similar refund this year (I received about 3k last year). I told him while I did make more money this year (3x as much) I did pay more in taxes, so I would imagine it would be the same or less. He said he wanted to see a copy of my returns after I file, and if I do get a refund, "don't spend it." I was sad as I was hoping to keep my return. However, it's a small price to pay for wiping out $55k in credit card debit. I can re-coup that $3,000 in three months of making the minimum credit card payments!
For those of you wondering what the 341 meeting will be like, just look up the docket of your trustee (it's public information0 and go sit in on a handful of cases. It certainly eased my mind! Now for the woman who showed up with her fancy hair-do, fur coat, painted nails and high heeled shoes, I wouldn't recommend that!
