My wife has about $460 a month in student loans and is going to be laid off in July which is why we are filing for BK. She also has a lot of credit card debt as I do. Once she is on unemployment and we are discharged (my job is safe) we will be ok in terms of income as long as she can defer her loans. I have heard that loans can be deferred for up to 3 years when you are unemployed. Has anyone here gone through this? How simple/hard is it to do?

our daughter did it and it was only a phone call away. some of the lenders ask for a written breakdown and others will just do the deferment over the phone. but, you should have no problem once she loses her job.
also, don't forget many teachers get a break on their loans depending on where they are teaching. i know a few that all but got their entire loans wiped off the face of the earth, however, they were teaching at inner city schools. i don't know about your situation, but it might be something you want to look into in the future.8/4/2008 MAKE SURE AND VISIT Tobee's Blogs! http://www.bkforum.com/blog.php?32727-tobee43 and all are welcome to bk forum's Florida State Questions and Answers on BK http://www.bkforum.com/group.php?groupid=9
