How to Start Repaying Student Loans after Ch 13 Discharge

Once I had filed for Chapter 13 my student loans seemed to automatically into a deferment and hadn't made any payments while in bankruptcy. I expect a discharge soon and wanted to know would they be notified and payments automatically start back up or will I have to contact them?

If you have access to your lender/servicer's system, you should be able to see the date. I would suspect that they wouldn't restart until some 30 days after they receive notice of the discharge. I can't tell you if your servicer would automatically restart "automatic" payments. You would need to ask the servicer. I know that for Nelnet, they are pretty good and their systems will tell you. If it's a federal loan, then you can look in NSLDS via Student Aid (dot gov) to see the status of your loans.
    Chapter 7 (No Asset/Non-Consumer) Filed (Pro Se) 7/08 (converted from Chapter 13 - 2/10)
Status: (Auto) Discharged and Closed! 5/10

Were payments made via your plan? My loans were in forbearance prefiling and then the interest should ahve been frozen during the "covid era" student loan freeze. My 5 year plan paid almost $300 a month towards my student loans and yet, my principal has only gone down a whopping $39. Absolute insanity.
