I used to buy into the premise that a person should actively pursue the re-establishment of credit immediately after BK, but not anymore. Objectively, it just doesn't make sense to use credit unless you must. So going out and trying to get every crappy high interest rate card is a waste of time and money.

The most important factor that will heal your credit from filing BK is TIME.

General financial planning is a far more efficient tool in achieving your goals then getting some $1000 limit, piece of shit credit card, with a $50 annual fee.

This doesn't mean you shouldn't take steps to correct your credit report if their are inaccuracies, but at the same time, you DO NOT need to actively seek out credit, it will come your way with the passage of time.

The most important thing you can do is educate your self about the true cost of credit and how to determine if you are getting a good or bad deal when an offer does come your way.

and by the way...USE A REGULAR FONT SIZE,

Yes cindylynnsmith~ you do raise good points, and I agree with you to a degree!! It's all good!!
I do know this too...~ it is by our own decision how we head back into creditland after BK... and if I am in a 100% payback for five years of 2300.00 a month that means if I continue to save that AFTER my BK monthly then in 10 years from now, I will have saved over a WHOPPING 138K ....and after that five years, I will only have a mortgage payment, and utilities ...no car payments...because my cars should still be decent...I take great pains at taking car of them...then with what I have in savings...plus my mortgage (by then will knocked down considerably)....I should be able to PAY outright for another home if I so choose to do....
You see...this has helped me realize just HOW much money I could have...if I didn't have CC debt....it forces me to SEE what dumb mistakes I made...
Yes, there are others here that maybe don't have so much CC debt, but maybe they have medical debt, disabilities and so forth~ but MOST of us here are simply in debt because of that DAMN CC ....bottom line!!!
And even if you don't have such a high income.....when you look at all of your so called disposable income.....and add that up for 5 yrs....it makes a difference....instead of paying CC's...you will be paying YOURSELF...most importantly~ and it does add up!!!!!
I can't WAIT for this to be over~ and please don't misunderstand me~ I am NOT disagreeing with you at all Cindy~ I just see that with ALL of the CC debt here in the USA~ we LET CC companies RULE over our lives...we are slaves to them~ and that's not what was intended...we are to be good stewards with our money~ and I'll be the first to say that I have NOT been that, but from this day forward~ I intend to~ I intend on changing A LOT about ME!!!!!!!!!!! I no longer want to be a slave to anyone....especially the bank. or CC companies~ I LOVE CREDITHATER'S ID~ it's what I wish to call myself 5 yrs from now!!!!!!!!!!!

I love that we are both able to state our case and agree to disagree to some point! One thing that you stated is that you are already in a house, which does make a huge difference. I hope to own one day soon and do have the income to afford a mortgage. BUT....I live in Southern california (moving is not an option due to hubby's job) and the MINIMUM house within commuting distance of my job is AT LEAST $500,000. (2 BR/2BA approx. 1100-1500 s.f. in a decent neighborhood) No joke!!! So paying outright for a house is not an option for me. I wish you good luck in your saving, hopefully we are all striving to do the same. Hopefully HHM can learn from our conversations that differences are not a reason for name calling and ignorant comments. I am truly dissapointed in HHM's last response. I had a lot for respect for HHM and do not understand the reason for the last hostil post!

Cindy, HHM was not referring to you. He/she was referring to all of geturdone's posts earlier in the thread which do all have large font sizes.

Well....I think HHM was commenting on someone elses font...not yours sweetie!!!!! It is kind of disturbing to see such large print, or overwhelming I should say~ and I think he meant the "jackass" as a tongue in cheek thing~ not sure, but HHM is usually very forgiving and always knowledgable!! I'd be willing to bet that he was just venting!!!
Don't take it personal cindy~ and I know he didn't mean it to you~

I actually had a mod get upset with me about a post I replied to....they called me a name, and then bashed me for calling something else a name...but they took my post WAY OUT OF context...anyway~ I have no respect for that particular person...they have posted several times since calling other people/entities names, and giving their opinion, but oh well......hahahaha

About the house ownership thing....YES YES YES!!! I know things in California are TONS higher than they are out here in Oklahoma~ I am SHOCKED to watch some of the real estate shows on TV about the prices of homes there compared to here.....a home here that is 1700 sq ft, plus two car attached garage is only about 175K - 225K ...that's BRAND NEW !!!!!
my home is probably only worth about 135K here at this moment, but in CA, I'm thinking it would be of 300K-450K ...
Our area is an old area, and our house is the nicest on the block (just my opinion...hahahaha) hopefully others around on the street will start making improvements..some have~ but hey, it's hard to come up with that extra money~ believe me I know!!!! We have done a LOT to this house~ when we purchased it we paid 62K ....10 yrs ago~ hard to believe it's been that long~ ....but we've refied a couple of times, it is a fixed rate, and 20 yrs. so.....should be able to stay~ We would love to move west....AZ or NM, my husband is in San Diego as I write~ at a respiratory therapist convention~ he's called and said "I LOVE IT HERE" .....OH NO~ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He said "You sure can tell there's LOTS of money out here......." ~sOOOOO...I guess I won't be moving to CA !!!!! LOLLOL

Yes, we can agree to disagree cindy~ hey that's what makes the world go 'round~ just because I might not have the same ideas~ doesn't mean I don't like you, or value your opinion~ i'm not that cut and dried~ you have to be somewhat flexible~!!!!!!!
              Anyway~ cheers!!!!!!!

Cindylynnsmith...I was not referring to you. The subject matter of my post was a general comment about the overall topic of the thread and geturdone's abuse of fonts was quite annoying (its just bad forum edicate). I can see how when things are written, it leaves open a wide variety of interpretations...but I really meant it in a light hearted way. I didn't mean "you jackass!!!!", but more like, "jackass, ha ha ha".

But at any rate, I apologize if you took offense.

When I talk about rebuilding credit in classes this is what I mean: for starters use secured credit cards like FNB Omaha which cost only $20/year. You can find a CU or local bank who wil loan you a $1000 to put into CD and pledge CD for loan. This will cost a few dollars, but probably less than $25. Rebuilding this way works and is less costly.

This is needed as society views BK thru dark colored glasses. It will affect the rest of your life so you want to put the best fact on it that is possible. Jobs and pay increases will be further apart. Car and home insurance will cost more or be unavaiable.
I mean never using revolving credit again. OK to use cards for reward points, double the warranty period and any other free benefits like collision damage waiver on car rental.
Without question always pay the balances in full and on time each month. If you cannot do this then you are addicted to credit and should not ever again have or use a credit card.
                          Thanks,
                          enoney
