    Getting your "fico" scores

OK, I know that you can get your fico score from several places, like myfico.com... but I see some people on here showing their updated scores on a weekly basis... are you using myfico.com and paying the $45 each time or is there a service that lets you pay a montly fee and get the scores as often as you want?

Right on the front page of http://www.myfico.com/
$7.95/month for Equifax reports and scores

    TrueCredit.com
$15/month for 3-in-1 credit reports and their approximate versions of the fico scores

I am a firm and personal believer, that your FICO score should and is a part of your credit report, and you should receive this EVERY year when you are entitled to your free credit report.

It's a travesty that they didn't include this....

        Tin,
I just feel like it's a moneymaking scam for them. The whole thing where everyone was entitled to yearly free reports accessible via the web probably ticked off the industry so they figured that they'd at least squeeze a few bucks off of them by keeping the FICO score separate. I totally agree with you that they should be part of the CR.

"A billion here, a billion there, pretty soon it adds up to real money." - Senator Everett Dirksen, US politician (1896 - 1969)

It frustrates me to no end that so many U.S. companies have decided that making money off desperate people who are teetering on the edge of financial ruin is not only ok, it's stupid NOT to do it. History is just repeating itself (think of the late 1920s and the stock market crash) - you'd think we'd learn....guess not.
I am not a lawyer and this is not legal advice nor a statement of the law - only a lawyer can provide those.

I completely agree. I mean $14.95 PER bureau?!

Heck, I'd rather go and apply for a loan, just so they could give me my free credit report, and then I would have the actual scores that the creditors have.

And who's to say that the "FICO" that they are selling ME, is the same one they are selling BobJonesAutoSales?

            It's just crazy.

I think that they ought to have to LEGALLY release to the public EXACTLY how a FICO is determined also... that should be public information because it affects so much!

Yeah, its total BS... I don't think theres anywhere you can get an accurate score. I just cancelled my free trial with them. It was telling me my experian credit score was 738. I then applied for about 8 credit cards, and got 4 of them. I went back and checked the score again, and it still shows 738 despite all the new inquiries and accounts. My other 2 credit bureau scores I had on free trials with other sites, both dropped around 10 pts.

Multiple inquiries within a two week period are counted as only one inquiry. They treat it as if you are buying a car or home and are getting assessed for prequalification at several places.

Either way, they're telling me that my score didn't change AT ALL, and the new accounts were already showing on my report before I even got the cards in the mail.

This is ONLY for auto loans and home loans. This doens't apply to credit cards, and your scores should drop at least a few points, if in fact you have your "real" credit score.

But then again, what's a real credit score?

My bad--misinterpreted something I read. Thanks for correcting me.

I totally agree with you guys...I tried True Credit and found out my husband and my scores NEVER budged despite the fact we had gotten a few cards, paid off a loan, etc...I challenged them on that and they never responded so I cancelled our membership. Frankly I did apply for a loan for some dental work and found out what my score was; my husband found out through our credit union when he paid off my car....I refuse to pay for us $28 per month for scores THEY have determined are correct. Some companies obviously only pull from one CRA. The credit union where we have an account said they have a beacon score they use...she said they take into account a lot of factors and not just a FICO score.

That was exactly what I was trying to find out as well. I don't want the credit bureau's version of their score - I would like the true FICO score. Is there any such thing? I just called MYFICO and they said there's is only a snapshot for one month- no going back and checking updated info, etc. You basically have to order the FICO standard after that for each bureau you would like or the deluxe if you wanted all 3 again and he gave me a 10% promotional code to use if I decided. I don't think what they have to offer is anything great whatsoever - so if anyone has recommendations - that would be wonderful.

I basically want to go in, run all 3 reports for myself and hubby every month- and check our FICO scores- unlimited anytime of the month. Any such thing?
