me too really pamkev, we are cash type people, but we have always had a couple cards after bk. it's just they were not the best and anyone like wells fargo.

this actually may be a good sign they are beginning to loosen up their credit policy. although, my dh pointed out we have a rather nice investment/savings account with them which may have some reason they made a decision to give us one. also, i hated to use them for investment purposes but when we restarted to save i didn't have enough money to invest to use a regular broker. we are limited where we live where to go. i'm not into stocks at all and wanted to get back into the market with bonds, so this is just small step, to what i hope is to establish some stability for our future. (i'm not going to lie, also for my children).

no, its, not for a car right now. (thank you God everyday for our old car), it's to be able to get a decent loan if we need one and don't have enough money.

well, we paid off this house in less than 3 years, so i'm thinking we can do that with a car as well. i have been saving, but actually the past few years almost every dime went into paying off this mortgage which we did this month!!!!! ZERO balance!!!!!!!!!! no mortgage ever again. so, i'll be taking that money and putting some of it aside for the ca,r which i already have some saved.

i would like to pay cash for the whatever car we buy. i just don't know if that's possible because i use to think just buy a good used one and that's that and pay cash. now after this past year, with all the terrible things that happened to us with my dh almost dying at least 5 times fighting this rare form of cancer, if i didn't have reliable car i really would have been in deep serious trouble. so, now, i want a new car that i know i will have no problems with, when and IF i have to get one. i am hoping i have a few good years left if i just keep changing that oil and belts and fluids etc. i treat her with kit gloves, and she's been good to us, she is a she!

we are for the first time after this month, saving more than we are spending. i'm not certain what it feels like yet. also, although we paid off the house i was rigid about savings monthly. like depositing that first before anything else. then their is the car account which i have some money in, but again the goal was save more for a car or get this car paid off, the house won.

Doesn't Visa offer some kind of purchase protection. That may be another reason to go ahead with one, but of course the plan of repayment action is paramount.

i never go for those purchase protection offers? that's why many times i use the cards to purchase services or products that can or may have defects, at least i have the ability to halt the payment or fight it.

I'm with you on that. That's why I like to purchase with Visa. There is an added benefit that takes care of short term defects.

exactly, and that is why i like to use the cards for those types of things and also services. if someone comes over to fix something and it breaks in an hour, at least i have some recourse.

In my experience Victoria Secret CC customer service are the worst about purchasing those purchase protection things. There have been rare occasions when I have had to call them, and have gotten into a verbal wrestling match trying to get off the phone. I recently met a girl who use to work in VS customer service and she explained to me that they are suppose to offer the purchase protection on every call and they have to have 3 rebuttals from the customers! What a nuisance.

Not good for sure, but the Visa protection comes with your purchase as part of using the card. The cost is associated with the fees you and the vendor pay Visa through the year and at the transaction. There is nothing beyond the purchase price for the consumer to pay. No hard sell to deal with, but rather just use the card and it is included.

yes, that's what i'm use to as well. you have to watch everything so carefully with any cards nowadays.

i recently ordered a nursery via pottery barn kids. i put it on their card because i wanted to make certain the furniture didn't arrive damaged, because if it does, or did, i have recourse. so i get my bill the other day and i couldn't believe i had over an $800 balance (i always pay in full) they charged me interest on and the items were and are on back order until the end of july!!! i was on the phone over 2 hours with these people. it's situations like this that using the card was so much better than going into the store and paying for the item only to find out they lied about the ship date, because when i ordered the room they said everything was in stock and now my poor little brand new little grand daughter came home from the hospital without her crib delivered i knew about the back order, but i couldn't believe they expected me to pay them. unreal.

but that's why sometimes using the cards is alright for me, anyway.

well we are getting ready to leave on vacay, so i put the money in our safe deposit box and will use the card. again, we never had issues with cards but after being on this site for a few years it gets a body most paranoid to even think about using it. when i use one i usually run home and go pay it off! it's really good not to do that. i don't think that helps your credit much.

since we are hitting all the kids on our vacay, we are figuring at least 1k per house! (fill the freezers and the pantries) then there are their kids so i guess i better bring money anyway. damn kids, really.
