They eventually did the same for me, but they declined me 3x for a secured card! What was sad was I had not BK'd them, didn't even have a card open with them at the time. I had my Addison Avenue secured card for about 10 months before Cap1 would even bat an eye at me. Now I use them exclusively, because "subprime" or not, their rewards program is pretty sweet. 1.5% plus a bonus 50% at the end of the year = 2%, and that is pretty good for me. That's not counting all the bonus cash back for shopping through merchants on their website. For example, Giftbaskets.com is 10% cash back... I always get mine and my fiance's mom gift baskets for Mother's day. That's a pretty nice deal. I get 10% back, and they get a basket filled with wine, coffee and chocolate. Winners all around!

Nice. It's funny, I swore them off, but I have a much different perspective now about money and credit and was really lucky and grateful that they gave me credit. I really want 1 more card. I want the Walmart card, mainly for the free monthly TU Fico

I was able to get Care Credit 1000 right away. I figured Walmart would approve me 3 yrs out. Walmart rejected me

Capital One is actually pretty good, IMO. I do think their bad rep was well deserved in the past, but it seems like they are working to clean that up. The fact is, for those who are trying to rebuild credit Cap1 has been a saving grace with their 3-steps program. Now once you hit that $750 credit limit, though, that is the highest they will go on that card. You will have to reapply for another one, which if you are looking at using credit to rebuild it is worth checking out their rewards card. That is how I did it, and also eventually ended up with a higher limit.

              Just PIF, of course ;)

Are you sure on that? I have the Cap. 1 cash rewards card, too - and AFAIK, it's 1% cash back plus 50% at the end of the year, resulting in a total of 1.5%.

I apologize, yes, 1.5, my math was incorrect. I really like that card.

Credit scores, 610, 610, 654. Hopefully this will help get my scores up. Thanks to all who contribute to this forum.

Not necessarily. I got a letter in the mail about a week later, asking for proof of income, but I decided not to follow through with it. I've never had to actually submit proof in the past, and it seemed like more trouble than it's worth when incurring debt only got me into trouble in the past.

My guess is I would have been approved, they just wanted to know how much of a limit to start me out with. I'll never know for sure though.

Yesterday, I went online to see about applying for an Orchard card. The site says that they are now issued through Capital One (part of my BK) so I doubt they would give me a card, so I didn't apply.

About Cap One...I've been getting "pre approval" letters from them for a no annual fee platinum card. Always addressed to my maiden name. Are these really pre-approved offers? I'm not even discharged yet (Ch 7). Seems like the offer would be in my married name if it were legitimate.

Any one try for the Capital One Venture card?

I also keep getting card offers in my company name, anyone go this route?

                            Thanks

The Venture Cards as well as all the Visas are for excellent credit. You may have to wait awhile on that one. Sorry, don't know about the business cards.

My fiance has a Venture card. Bear in mind he has never paid a dime of interest in his life, and has excellent credit. He has used that card faithfully since he received it, and has close to 16,000 miles saved up, which is I believe $160 off on a ticket. For those with less than stellar (like myself) I think the Cash Rewards card is an equally viable option. I believe I got the Cash Rewards a year post BK, but it wouldn't surprise me if some are able to get it sooner.
