We filed a chap 7 in June 2010, discharged in October 2010. Our scores have consistently been right around where I would expect them to be since that time and have continued to go up. They aren't as high as I would like them to be but I would think that will be the case for quite some time. Anyway, I'm getting ready to do some serious cleanup on our credit reports and I have a few questions.
1. Will disputing an item reset the time clock? For instance...we have a few negative items that will fall off in spring 2014 so only a year away. Should I dispute those items and risk resetting the clock so they stay for another 7 years or just wait that year for them to fall off?
2. One item is listed as "Sold to another agency." This is a debt that was included in the BK. Can/should I dispute that and if I do what should it read? Or should it just be removed entirely?
3. There are several small negative items on our reports such as a $25 doctor bill that went to collections but was paid, a $77 doctor bill that went to collections and then was paid, etc. Is it possible to have these negative items removed somehow? I understand that they are legitimate items and really were in collections before they were paid but it just seems like we're being harshly penalized for such a small bill...especially since we did, in fact, pay them.
I'm sure I'll have more questions as a I work my way through this disputing process but I'll post them as I go. Thanks!
