Carnival Credit Card.. Should I call them?

Ok so I just came back from a 7 day cruise and while I was on the ship I applied for their credit card. I just got my denial letter in the mail on Saturday and they basically told me that I was denied for a card due to the fact that I have low available credit on existing credit card, insufficient credit history and a high number of recent inquiries. I filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy last year and it was discharged in December of last year. Right now my credit score is 635. Should I call them and tell them that I am trying to build my credit back up and that is why I applied for this card? Of course I have low credit limits on my card because the companies I am with Credit One and Legacy Visa are known for their low credit limits. What should I do yall? I would really like a card with them since I like to cruise throughout the year.

I would do nothing. The "help desk" person you would be talking to cares less. Your scoring is done by a computer not a person. They key in and autodial in batches and the form letter is not just sent to you. We have done NOTHING as we do not intend to get any cards. However by just time our score is near 700 by doing nothing. An officer in small talk at my credit union said she'd give us a car loan anytime as she pulled our account for the heck of it.

Your credit will go up but your biggest dings are too many pulls on that account looking for cards to get. Give it a rest awhile then try again. If you can take a cruise, you probably don't really need a CC. We are doing quite well not owing anyone or any card, still we get what ever we need. Not everything we want of course. LOL. 'Hub

So, that's Barclay right? I would definately try a recon...hell all they can say is no again right? Barclay is very finicky though and they may give you some other bogus about not enough positive history since your BK or something... how many inquries did you have when you app'd? They don't like those either... but its worth a shot.

Yep it's a Barclays card. I have 23 inquries total on my credit report from over two years ago. I would like to have a credit card for when I cruise so I can use it and get points torwards more cruises so yes, I would like to have this card. Thanks for your responses!

I wouldn't worry about inquiries from over 2 years ago. How many recent inquiries do you have?

You really need to stop apply for credit. If you were a bank and someone came to you for a line of credit would you lend to them with a BK and 10 inquiries on their credit report? 10 inquiries says noone will lend to you and that you're desperate. Wait 6 months and reapply.

And Actually for the record Hub, calling the Barclays recon backdoor number is actually quite effective at people getting declines overturned. Many people have had success doing that.

But yea, 10 inquiries is a lot...especially for Barclay. They will not like that at all. You either need to wait it out or do some inquiry bumpage before you apply again. Barclay pulled Trans Union right? And that's where you have the 10?

They pulled TransUnion. The 10 pulls came from when I went car shopping earlier this year and three credit cards pulls.

Apply for NOTHING for 6 months and then try again. Barclays is good for recon but not with those inquiries.
