Just received my discharge, how to begin rebuilding credit?

Anyone have any tips for how to begin rebuilding credit after a discharge? My case is still not "closed" just discharged.

I have a Jeep which I am going to let CarMax pick up (100k miles, owe $7k on it)
I have $19k in student loans that I am behind $1,000 in payments on, and my "usual" payment is $137 per month

Should I try to get a secured credit card from my bank? Appreciate your advice.

I would work on getting your student loans as current as possible, and then try to get a credit card. Capital One seems very BK friendly...and we were approved 2 weeks after our discharge. Keep in mind that while your APR on the card will be high (probably at least 20%), that is irrevelant since the goal is to only charge 10-30% of your limit and pay it off in FULL before you get the bill. (i.e. limit is $1000.00 then keep your charge in the $100-$300 range)

Yes, the first step is to bring your student loans current and then keep them current. Having the loan paid as current for a while will in itself help. Then work on getting a credit card.

After you get the student loans current, will you need to get a new car? Securing auto financing after the 7 is complete may be just as "easy" as an unsecured cc.
