Ok, so I know I am likely to get read the riot act here for even asking this, but here it goes. Has anyone gotten a secured CC while in an active ch13? I am 2 years into a 5 year plan and am looking into this for 2 reasons.
1. I have occasional need to travel for work (all of which is reimbursed) but have had at least one embarrassing situation trying to rent a car without a CC with a co-worker present (finally got them to do it on my debit card but had to jump through hoops)
2. I am hoping at some point to be able to purchase a house, likely not till after discharge, and would like to do what I can to start building up my scores.
I have been able to put a decent amount of money into savings while in my CH13 so far and have no intentions in the future of truly "using" credit again outside of a potential mortgage. I plan on doing everything cash, already have long term savings plans in place for future vehicle needs. So the plan here would be to get a small ($200 or something) secured credit card, use it for some small bill every month, and pay off nearly everything every month ( leave like $10 on the card to make sure everything reports every month ), other than that only use it for car rentals and the like and again that would be paid every month.
I know I would need to talk to my lawyer and get approval from the trustee, my lawyer is likely to want $$ to do that and so I figured I would ask here before going to him.
P.S. Did some searching and didn't find anything specific to getting a card while in a ch13, my apologies if there is a thread that already discusses this which I missed.
