Two updates...
Update #1: two of the credit reporting agencies, who shall remain nameless but it wasn't TransUnion, responded to my demand with a counter letter indicating that I didn't provide enough information for them to "investigate" my claims! Silly CRAs! My name, address, masked SSN (last 4), current address and case number was included! In any case... I'll play their game this one more time, then they will be in the United States Bankruptcy Court explaining it to my Judge.
Update #2: well, I don't know if I told you about this, but a collection agency was trying to collect money from me for a red-light ticket that I allegedly received in a part of Florida that I've never been to. I sent them a nasty letter telling them to validate it. They sent me a letter back with a web page copy of a court page that didn't even have my name. I called them and they tell me that they don't have the ticket (original debt) and that I have to call some other number to obtain the proof. I immediately called their corporate headquarters and received the name of the president and vice president. Sent them a scathing letter indicating that they can't put negative entries in my credit report for something they can't even prove and that they have violated the FDCPA and FCRA, etc, etc. I just received a letter which basically says this...
So, debt validation works. They could not validate the debt and admitted that they had no evidence of it. Shame on them. This all happened because I received a credit alert from my credit monitoring service. It took my score down about 40 points (since my credit is mostly clean). This is just shameful that it's so easy for them to do this. Without my perseverance and hours of calls, and my CMRR letters... this could have ended badly.

"let this serve as confirmation that (we) submitted a request to the credit bureaus to delete its tradeline from your credit reports..." It included an eOscar electronic verification number as well! (The request was submitted electronically to the bureaus.)
