I have a $1500 credit limit & hubby has a $300, both with 16.45%. I have no idea why the big difference in the limits. The same thing happened with Best Buy, I got $4000 and he got $500.

I had not considered that . . . I had the Orchard Card for about 3 years and asked about 3 or 4 times, always told they are not accepting requests . . so I kinda just stopped using them. I put the card in a lock box at home and have not used it in about 9 months.

But I will try them again, one more time, tomorrow .. . even though, they will probably only increase $100 which wont change the fact that I will close them. I currently have a Chase for $4,500 and so I don't need the Orchard at all . . and the low CL is bringing down my scores and ability to gain better credit rates with other cards.

Thanks for that information though . . . you are correct . . I just read some other forums where they are saying that Orchard has begun to take CL requests once again! Good info

Nomoneynomore, Do you mind if I ask . . . . did they offer a decent credit limit? One of the cards I have is the Orchard card, with a $300 limit. Was great for getting back on my feet and helping rebuild. But now myFico is over 700 and the card is actually hurting me more than helping. For example it currently has a ZERO balance. I applied for a Cap One card and was denied. Denial reason: insufficient credit limits. What I would like to do is find a decent card now with a higher CL, and close out my Orchard. . . before it's too late.

I say before it's too late, because I am currently in the beginning stage of rebuilding my credit. If I close it now, it will not hurt as bad. But If I keep it much longer, it will grow as my oldest credit card and possibly hurt me much more, if I close it in a year or two.

Amy26--We have the same problem. The lender of our vehicle loan is different from any of the answers they have, as is the company that had our mortgage several years ago. The names of the companies they show are the names of the companies NOW, not what they were when we had the loans. If I hadn't done some research, we would never answer correctly & wouldn't be verified.

Its not unusual at all... you guys haven't applied online for any kind of financial stuff before and been asked these types of questions? They get the information from the credit bureaus. The annoying thing for me is certain ones don't have my correct answers. When I KNOW damn well that I answered the questions perfectly correctly and they still say they cannot verify my identity. I've been trying to find out exactly where they get these questions from and who I would need to speak with to correct the answers but nobody will ever help me. So, I usually cannot get verified for things online...depending on which source they use.

LexisNexis bought the company we use in the last year. A lot of what they use is publically available information. It just combines it all in one place: telephone directories; real estate records (from county recorders and assessors); DMV records in states that allow it; government birth, death and marriage records; birth, death and marriage notices in newspapers (where they often list family members), court records. That's all I can think of, but I'm sure there are more sources.

Oh yeah, the system would have the correct answer, but the rep would not know it, which is what I thought you were saying. When I have to ask verifiers after an app I just read everything on the screen, but there is no indication to me which one is correct.

I do understand the need to ask security questions. It was just something that had never happened before . . so it set a red flag in the back of my head.

How do I know that they knew the answers? Well, because it was multiple choice . . . and ALWAYS the correct answer was in the choices:

    1. What is your mothers name:
    a) Julie
    b) Christine
    c) Delores
    e) Theresa

    2) When is your sisters birthday
    a) June
    b) February
    c) August
    d) December

What Street have you been associated with before?

    a) Palm Ave
    b) Hickory Street
    d) Balin Circle
    e) Franklin Street

She read the questions and answers . .. and it would be near impossible for her to have randomly made up the answers, and ALWAYS have the correct one in the choices.

Again, they could simply be paying for a service from Lexus Nexus . . which DOES provide those nitty gritty details of your life . . as part of a security verification process . .

I can't see the answers, though, just the questions. I have asked everything from mother's age range to the applicant's height and eye color. Sometimes all of the questions have answers, sometimes none, it is random.

Also when someone calls in to discuss their cc 99% of the time for verification I will ask mother, father's, spouse's, love child's name and DOB. Some people flip me crap and say "Why can't I just give you my SSN or DOB?" It is because your SSN/DOB are IDENTIFIERS and I am asking VERIFIER questions. Verifiers are usually what stop fraudsters from accessing your account. They can have your SSN/DOB all day long, but very rarely do they know your sister's name and DOB.
