    New Consumer protection agency

Does anyone think the new federal consumer protection agency that is supposed to start up in July will be able to help people with credit reporting problems. I have two issues:
    1. Verizon Wireless is reporting for up to 7 years that they lost $59 in my Chapter 7 bankruptcy last year but refuses to report any of my other payment history pre and post BK. I am still a customer of theirs
    2. Chase is reporting "chargeoffs" after the date I filed the Chapter 7. I have complained to the OCC(Office of the Comptroller of the Currency) about this but they are stalling to do NOTHING.
Any comments on the above or the new agency I think will be useful to the members of this forum.

Just another example of more growth in government, more spending, more federal employees when in actuality, no one in government gives a damn about the consumer.

Frogger, I think you and I agree on most thing - but Elizabeth Warren is very very different - most of her career has been to document the - pardon the expression - the screwing of the working class, and fighting against the banksters. IF she gets in and IF she's able to follow her conscience as she had done in the past, her presence alone may scare some of the banksters, etc.

As to 1, that is actually okay what they are doing (by okay, I mean legal)

        2. have you tried disputing it through regular channels. i.e. the credit reporting agencies?

No doubt about her career to this point, however Barney, Dodd, and the other "good ole' boys" haven't got hold of her yet. They will whip her into shape quick or send her down the road with her tail tucked between her legs. The more things change, the more you see that they are still the same.

Dodd is not running again, and Frank - he's not the root of all evil...

Re Dr. Warren - since she'd have her job at Harvard to go back to I honestly think she'd resign if she's pushed in directions she doesn't want to go...maybe I'm naive...

So HHM you think it is OK under the FCRA for a company to "cherrypick" what is wants to report to a CRA -report only negative stuff and not the complete history with that company especially after the negative history
Regarding the second issue yes I did try to complain to the CRA and they would not change things
I'm still waiting for July to see what the new agency will do if anything.

Any negative entry has a 7 year life span, so the fact that you have a defaulted debt with them is okay to report, Now, if you filed BK, it should report as "Included in Bankruptcy" Once the debt is included, they have no obligation to report anything after that.
How you can fix that is to close your "existing" account and open a "new" account.
There may be an "argument" that it is a FCRA violation, but it is borderline. I guess I should have been less coy about it in saying it is "okay", but I don't think it is a clear cut violation, and therefore, it would be difficult to find anyone to actually bring the case.
